Client NameNaftanir Co.

Iran-Iraq Gas Export Pipeline Project, a PMC contract in nature, was awarded to Hirbodan Company in February 2016.

This contract is the first BOT Contract (Build-Operate-Transfer) made at National Iranian Gas Company with the aim of transferring gas to West and Northwest regions of Iran followed by exportation to Iraq.

Project Scope

Through this contract, Hirbodan Company was in charge of following items; exploiting the latest technologies such as Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD):

  • Establishing more than 590 km of pipelines
  • 5 Booster Gas Compressor Stations
  • 5 Pressure Control Stations
  • One Gas Metering Station

Project Sections

Due to the long distance (route), and in order to achieve the best supervision and faster and more accurate implementation, the project was divided into 5 sections in the pipeline phase as follows:

  • Ahvaz-Khorramshahr-Shalamcheh
  • Dezful-Kuhdasht
  • Kuhdasht-Bisotun
  • Bisotun-Kermanshah
  • Kuhdasht-Charmale

1) Ahvaz-Khorramshahr-Shalamcheh

141 km of 48” pipeline with a design pressure of 1400 psi (pounds per square inch) with the aim of exporting gas to Iraq.
HDD method has been applied and is in progress to cross Karun River in this area.
8 Line Break Valve (LBV) stations, one Pig Launcher station and one Pig Receiver station have been (foreseen) in this section.

2) Dezful-Kuhdasht

164 km of 56″ pipeline as part of IGAT-6E with a design pressure of 1400 psi.

3) Kuhdasht-Bisotun

120 km of 56″ pipeline as part of IGAT-6E with a design pressure of 1400 psi.
8 Line Break Valve (LBV) stations, also one Pig Launcher station and one Pig Receiver station have been foreseen in this section.

4) Bisotun-Kermanshah

34 km of 30″ pipeline with a design pressure of 1050 psi aims to strengthen Ilam-Kermanshah 30″ pipeline, and also supply the industrial units.
3 Line Break Valve (LBV) and branch stations are set up in order to supply Bisotun, Bisotun Petrochemical, Kermanshah Polymer and Petrochemical, and Zagros Power Plant, also one Pig Launcher station and one Pig Receiver station have been predicted in this section.

5) Kuhdasht-Charmaleh

130 km of 48″ pipeline with a design pressure of 1050 psi is foreseen and established to feed the Charmaleh-Naftshahr export pipeline.
5 Line Break Valve (LBV) stations, one Pig Launcher station and one Pig Receiver station have been foreseen in this section.

Project Stations

Turbo Gas Compressors Stations

The Booster Gas Compressor Stations of this project are: 1) Deylam & Bidboland gas compression facility (located on the IGAT-6 between Asaluyeh-Ahvaz), 2) Ahvaz, Hosseinieh and Kuhdasht (located on the IGAT-6E between Ahvaz-Dehgolan).

Turbo compressors applied in this project are Produced by MAPNA Group and OTC, local companies to empower Iranian experts and will be used the aforementioned stations.

Pressure Control Stations

The project is designed to reduce the pressure in the Pressure Control Stations from 1400 to 1050 psi at the beginning of: 1) 20″ of IGAT-6E branch in Dezful, 2) 48″ of IGAT-6E branch in Kuhdasht-Charmaleh, 3) 30″ of IGAT-6E branch in Bisotun-Kermanshah, 4) 30″ of IGAT-6E branch in Dehgolan, and 5) Shalamcheh border.

Shalamcheh Gas Metering Station

A gas metering station is under design and installation at Shalamcheh border to export a volume of 25 million cubic meters per day to Iraq.
